Celtic Christianity is rooted in an experience of God that honors creation, finds holiness in everyday life, and embraces the Oneness of all things. During this daylong retreat, we’ll explore:
- The origins of Celtic Christianity and how it developed independently from the Roman Catholic Church
- Celtic Christianity’s theological differences from Western Orthodox Christianity: its emphasis on the divine within each of us, the sacredness of creation, experiencing God in the ordinary, and God’s desire for Oneness or Harmony of all things
- Why Celtic Christianity disappeared, its resurgence, and significant symbology in Celtic art
We’ll also worship together, experiencing liturgies reflecting Celtic Christianity’s deep connection to nature, harmony, and the sacred woven through all things.

Retreat leader: The Rev. Bill Livingston
Bill Livingston is an Episcopal priest and former CEO in community mental health services, with a long history of walking with individuals and communities through times of transition, trauma, and spiritual growth. Ordained in 1999, he served parishes in Mississippi and was appointed Canon Pastor Missioner on the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. In that role, he supported clergy and congregations through the long recovery process and later worked with Episcopal Relief & Development on national disaster response resources. Since relocating to North Carolina in 2009, Bill has served as interim rector and priest-in-charge in several parishes, consulted with more than 60 churches and dioceses, and worked with formation programs like CREDO, Journey Partners, and the Academy for Missional Wisdom. He also offers spiritual direction.
Bill has a deep love for the Celtic Christian tradition. He says, "“As I explored Celtic Christianity, the more intrigued I became. I found answers to my struggles with Western Orthodox Christianity. I experienced God more deeply through Celtic Christianity’s emphasis on the divine within every human being and in creation, the Oneness of all things, and experiencing God in the ordinary but also 'thin places' where we have a deeper awareness of God’s presence.” Bill regularly leads retreats and monthly Celtic Eucharist Hikes at Kanuga Conference Center.
